From a neighbor:
This is an issue that needs revisited within our neighborhood. I'm getting really frustrated with two vehicles that come barrelling around the corner on 230th. I've seen these vehicles both driven by young girls and God forbid someone be in their way. One vehicle is a little black truck while the other one is a gray Neon. I have small children and it's scary that these vehicles pick up that much speed in such a short distance. If anyone has information about small signs that I can get to put in the road that say "kids at play" please let me know. The spring and summer will be here soon and I'm worried about my childrens' well being.

I believe Walmart carries something you might be interested in. It's uglier than heck (a bright plastic silhouette of a person that holds a flag) but it's very visible. I think another home in our neighborhood has one, and they place it in the street when the kids are outside.
How many residents want to install "speed bumps"? Since we have private streets, we do not have to get approval from Pierce County. The signs did not work in my last neighborhood in Renton. It was the same drivers before and after the signs were installed.
I honestly think that speed bumps wouldn't be a bad idea. I worry often about the speed of some cars as they come barreling through our neighborhood. With a baby on the way myself I want my child/children to be growing up in a safe neighborhood. I love the idea of speed bumps on the more traveled areas of our streets!
Speed bumps are a bandaide, address the problem directly
Sometimes the problem cannot be addressed directly. Especially when there is so much traffic in and out of the neighborhood. Its hard to identify who is going where...and if they even live here. And believe me, the situation has been addressed directly with certain individuals...and nothing has been accomplished.
I agree with Jennifer!! Situation already addressed. It sort of worked for a short time, now back to the old behaviors!! People know what the speed limit is in a residential area, private property or not. Again, I'll bring up the retaliation issue. I'm not interested in continuing to go after the speeders and have them come after me or our property. Remember, I'm still trying to recover from the barking dog issue.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a mother and prefer to see people drive at a safe speed. However...
My concern with speed bumps is that it will invite kids to use them as skateboard ramps or bike jumps (thus bringing more kids into the streets, which neighbors have said they don't like).
Another concern is the cost. I think it's definitely okay to make a "wish list" for down the road. But right now we're fighting to keep our street lights on, so unfortunately we need to focus our funds on things like that.
I just need to comment from experience. At our previous community we put in speed bumps to slow down speeders and it didn't work, but it did damage the roads.
This is just an idea after reading all the suggestions.
I have seen neighborhoods, where they staggered planters into the side of the roads where you can't speed through it, because you have to maneuver around them. This is probably also a costly idea, but it wouldn't damage the roads and beautyfies the street, too.
